How Fictional Male Romance Characters Shape Women’s Individuation Process
The concept of karmic relationships and soul ties has existed for centuries. These are the types of romantic relationships we read about in books or see in TV shows and movies where two individuals (usually star-crossed lovers) are fated to be together. These two individuals typically come from different life paths or are sometimes not even the same species (Vampire/Werewolf/Human), thus making their differences even more pronounced. However, all these stories share that these men's role is to help the heroine or main female lead reconcile her inner masculine aspects.
These men usually come in two categories that heterosexual cis-gender women tend to classify them as. (Much like how heterosexual men will place women in two categories as well: The Madonna and Whore, but more on that in another blog post.) They are the Prince Charming or Chivalrous Knights type of characters and then the Don Juan or “Bad Boys” of the fictional world.
