AI and the Myth of the Perfect Woman

In this episode, we explore the myths of Pygmalion, Athena, and the tale of Echo and Narcissus, and how these three stories reflect the archetype of the “perfect woman” that men often attempt to create.

Pygmalion, the Greek sculptor and his Muse

We also see this pattern in how modern men are developing an over-reliance on AI software and are attempting to build humanoid female robots with artificial wombs.

While AI is great, it is not a substitute for a human being, yet our modern men don’t seem to be concerned about that. Instead, they appear to be chasing after the goddess archetype. the “perfect woman” who can act like their personal Stepford wife.

Adapted image of the original Stepford Wives movie (1975), which was much darker than the 2004 remake.

However, the problem with technology is that it can only echo back what it thinks we want it to hear, which makes it prone to deception.

So modern men, should ask themselves, what happens when they get bored with their “ideal woman” who can only mirror themselves back to them? Moreover, what might happen when they realize they don’t like what they see in the mirror?
